Tallaght Youth Theatre

tallaghtyouththeatre.gifFrom the Constitution set in January 2004:

2. The aim of T.Y.T. is:

(a) To provide a means of personal growth and development through drama.

(b) To introduce young people to drama and the allied arts at the highest level possible.

(c) To educate through the process of dramatic experience.

(d) To create awareness, appreciation and an interest in theatre.

(e) To provide a social setting in which young people can feel safe and comfortable to explore through drama and the arts.

Tallaght Youth Theatre was founded in 1994 by St. Kevin’s Drama Workshop, Tallaght Artsquad (of South Dublin County Council), and Tallaght Youth Services and is now run primarily by former members. It has gone from strength to strength over the years, acting as South Dublin’s flagship youth theatre.

As Tallaght’s principle youth drama organisation it incorporates the discipline of theatre and the excitement of a youth club, offering members a valuable, educative and fun experience.

As a member organisation of the National Association of Youth Drama, our members have been involved in many national and international festivals and events over the years where the opportunity to meet other like minded young people is paramount as well as being an exciting learning experience.

We endeavour to create an environment where young people can learn to express themselves through the arts and hold weekly workshops throughout the year to achieve this end.

We also produce one annual production, usually directed by a professional and a member’s one-act festival, where members can take on various theatre tasks from directing and acting to technical aspects of theatre as well as writing.

We usually recruit members in September but will consider any applications throughout the year. The age range is 14-19 generally but exceptions have been made in the past.
