Dublin Woollen Mills
In 1888 Valentine James Roche established the Dublin Woollen Mills on the quayside at 15 Bachelor's Walk, close to O'Connell's Bridge in the center of Dublin. The company specialised in selling wool fabric by the yard, including worsted woollens from Yorkshire in England and Irish tweeds from Connemara and Donegal.
Valentine James was a strong supporter of the Land League and the family living quarters over the shop was regularly used for political meetings, attended by such notables as Michael Davitt and Maude Gonne.
The arrival of the year 2000 sees the Dublin Woollen Mills enter its third century, with a fourth generation of Roches at the helm. Gerard, Bernard and Valerie Roche are confident that they can build on 112 years of experience, and set new standards in terms of product range, quality, value and service.
